The IER faculty of the Academy of Economic Studies was the first faculty in the Republic of Moldova to train specialists in international economic relations, gaining the richest experience in the domain. In the first cycle of studies (Bachelor), major courses focus on negotiation and commercial transactions, international payments and international economic diplomacy.

The faculty comprises three chairs:
- International Economic Relations
- Political Economy an Economic Doctrines
- Business Foreign Languages

At present, there are about 1200 students in full and extra-mural programmes of study. Full-time students are divided into three units, depending on their choice of the language of study: English, French, and German. Extra-mural studies are carried out in Romanian.

The students of the IER faculty publish two newspapers: “IER- Francophone” in French, and “IER- Action” in English.
Professional teaching at the faculty is ensured by:
- Full-time and associate academic staff
- Visiting teachers from the USA, France, Romania, Germany, Great Britain, Russia, Poland, Italy, Argentine, Hungary, Poland, Belgium, Iran etc.

The main objectives of the faculty are as follows:
- Train highly qualified specialists in international economic relations;
- Acquire proficiency in two foreign languages;
- Educate researchers and teaching staff through specialized Master, Doctorate, and Post-doctorate degree programmes.

Cycle I graduates specialized in World Economy and International Economic Relations are granted the qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Economics, interpreter of English, French or German.

International Cooperation
As of 1996, the first Filliere Francophone open in the Republic of Moldova, operates within the IER faculty. It benefits from a multilateral support of the Francophone University Agency. The IER faculty is a member of the University network supported by the HESP Programme (Soros Foundation). The programme provides financial support for academic exchanges, grants student merit scholarships and publishes teaching guidelines.

The IER faculty has signed cooperation agreements with the faculty of “ Economics, Strategies, and Business” of “Pierre Mendes-France”, Grenoble (France); the faculty of Economic and Social Sciences of the Technical University, Brauschweig (Germany); the faculty of International Relations, University of Nebrasca, Omaha (USA), the faculty of International Economic Relations and Economic Studies in foreign languages, AES, Bucharest (Romania); the faculty of Economics, Palermo University (Italy).
